Operating System Concepts, 8th Edition published

Very pleased to say that OSC 8th edition (the dinosaur book) is now out. All the details are at Amazon.

Unfortunately a textbook is never done. On my current todo list is updating all of the powerpoint slides that accompany the text, made available for faculty to modify and use.

Hi, the solutions to some of the problems are available on the WileyPlus site that is associated with the book. Unfortunately, you can’t just buy access to WileyPlus, rather your instructor had to sign up for access to it for the students when he or she chose the book for the class. There is an instructor’s manual that is available for, ahem, instructors.

    Section 19.4.2

    Page Number 679

    Last line of first para.

“such as windows xp is non preemptive”

This sentence is wrong. Windows XP is preemptive kernel. (infact first version of Windows NT was preemptive.)

Please consider this mail and verify better to Microsoft pages.

Hi, the answers to the “practice exercises” are available on-line at http://os-book.com. The answers to the other questions are only available to faculty teaching from the book so they can assign them as homework. Hope this helps.

Hi Varun, your Wiley sales person is the right one to get you a review copy. If you don’t know who that is I can ask Wiley to track it down for you.

    Hi Peter,

I studied from your book as a student and now I’m referring to your book to teach… :)
I just wanted to bring this into light that Wiley site doesn’t have the list of all colleges in India and hence I’m not able to register myself on the site. What should I do ??

    Best Regards
    Cauvery

  16. admin says:

Hi Cauvery, can you send me a link to the page that you are trying to use to register? What are you trying to get by registering at the site? I.e do you need the instructor’s manual or a review copy?

    –Peter

  17. Cauvery says:

    Hi Peter,

Following is the link I am trying to register on -

    https://professor.wiley.com/CGI-BIN/LANSAWEB?WEBEVENT+RD598F83C82320301E0B704W+PRD+ENG

I have spoken to a rep recently and she told she would add my college name to the list. I am keeping my fingers crossed to get that done soon as the Semester is starting in January.

I want to get access to Instructor manual and other restricted resources for Instructors.

    Thanks
    Cauvery

  18. admin says:

Hi Cauvery, Wiley should be getting in touch with you to make sure you have everything you need. Thanks for using our text!

Thank you so much for the help Peter. :)
