Operating System Concepts, 8th Edition published

Very pleased to say that OSC 8th edition (the dinosaur book) is now out. All the details are at Amazon.

Unfortunately a textbook is never done. On my current todo list is updating all of the powerpoint slides that accompany the text, made available for faculty to modify and use.

    Hi,
I’m currently taking this course at Uvic, and I’m wondering if you can help me with a copy of the solution manual for the practice questions on the textbook. Thanks very much for your time

Hi, the solutions to some of the problems are available on the WileyPlus site that is associated with the book. Unfortunately, you can’t just buy access to WileyPlus, rather your instructor had to sign up for access to it for the students when he or she chose the book for the class. There is an instructor’s manual that is available for, ahem, instructors.

    Section 19.4.2

    Page Number 679

    Last line of first para.

“such as windows xp is non preemptive”

This sentence is wrong. Windows XP is preemptive kernel. (infact first version of Windows NT was preemptive.)

Please consider this mail and verify better to Microsoft pages.
